Airport Depends on Marcellus Shale
The Marcellus Shale industry is adding jobs all across Pennsylvania. It's workers are also stimulating the local economy, specifically for businesses.
Alan McPherson, the manager at the St.Mary's Municipal Airport, made a formal statement that they rely on the industry.
"Marcellus Shale, there is a lot of that going on. They are just moving into this area so we support them and their efforts, which in turn supports the whole community," said McPherson.
McPherson said that industry companies regularly purchase fuel from the airport.
McPherson said that they usually sell 3,500 gallons of fuel every month to Marcellus Shale companies.
Right now fuel is going for $5.70 a gallon at St.Mary's Municipal Airport.
This means that the airport is bringing in nearly $20,000 every month from the natural gas industry.
McPherson believes the industry does nothing but benefit the surrounding area.
"They spend a lot of money when they're here. They rent houses, they rent storefronts and they buy fuel from us. They bring a lot into the area," said McPherson.
