The number of active rigs in the Barnett Shale rose by five this week to 35, apparently a rebound from last week, when the total was probably depressed by ice and snow that blew in during Christmas week.

That week, the count fell by eight to 30, according to RigData. Still, the Barnett rig count remains at its lowest level in years.

Nationally, the count inched down by one to 1,762. Oil rigs dropped by nine to 1,318, their lowest in nine months, BakerHughes said. Read more »

Jobs Safe at Barnett in the Midst of a Headquarters Shut-down - Says will help Barnett's Production Even!

Devon Energy's consolidation of jobs at its towering Oklahoma City headquarters has "no impact" on employment in the Barnett Shale, a  company spokesman says. Devon on Thursday announced it would close its Houston office and relocate exploration and development personnel from South Texas, East Texas and Louisiana. The company is the largest producer in the Barnett Shale and employs more than 400 people in the field, centered around its Bridgeport processing plant and offices.

Arlington to Send Bills > Barnett Shale For Gas Fires = Firefighters! First City Ever!

The city of Arlington will mail out the first round of bills Monday Oct. 1, 2012 to natural gas drillers, who will begin paying a $2,397 annual fee per well to fund a new emergency preparedness and response program.

Arlington is the first city in the Barnett Shale to launch such a program, designed to help firefighters better prevent and respond to natural gas releases and other problems. Read more »

Huge Holder of Barnett Shale Offers up > $302 Million IPO!

Summit Midstream Partners LP on Wednesday August 22, 2012 filed to raise up to $302 million in an initial public offering of common units for trading under the symbol SMLP on the New York Stock Exchange.

The Dallas-based partnership operates pipelines and infrastructure in the Barnett Shale of Texas and the Piceance Basin of Colorado. Customers include Encana Corp., Chesapeake Energy Corp, Exxon Mobil Corp.and others. Read more »
